The Mayor’s Office of Employment and Training serves unemployed low- and middle-income adults, seniors and residents with disabilities who live in East Orange. Services include career assessments and counseling, job-search and placement assistance, interview preparation, personal development plans, mentoring, empowerment workshops and more.

The center serves unemployed residents, dislocated workers, immigrants, refugees and participants in Welfare-to-Work programs.
SkillUp NJ
SkillUp NJ provides free online learning through the New Jersey Department of Labor. Residents can use the program to build workplace, technology and career skills on a flexible schedule.

United Community Corporation’s Youth Education and Employment Services connects Newark and Essex County youth with education, workforce training, professional certifications and mentorship.

New Jersey offers additional career programs for young adults, including Youth Corps, apprenticeships, Youth Transition to Work and free online training.
New Jersey Youth Corps is a year-round program that combines education, community service and workforce development for eligible young adults ages 16–25.
The New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services helps eligible residents whose physical, mental, cognitive or other disabilities create a substantial barrier to employment.

Reentry Employment Support

The New Jersey Reentry Corporation assists people returning to the community after incarceration. Support may include employment preparation, job placement, training referrals, identification assistance, healthcare connections, legal-service referrals and other services that can help stabilize reentry.
Residents should call before visiting to confirm intake procedures and eligibility.
Public-Benefit Recipents
The Essex County Division of Training and Employment coordinates employment activities for certain residents receiving Work First New Jersey, TANF, General Assistance or SNAP.

New Jersey unemployment benefits are handled by the NJ Department of Labor. Residents may apply for benefits, manage an existing claim, and access reemployment information through the state unemployment system.
